A responce to "Sexism"

So I found these videos on you tube. They state how gender stereotypes have been in disney films then ingrained into us as children. The third link sounds like the same girls who did a video for a class that is also posted on you tube. The fact that they are asked to pick the material to pieces in a negative way is very sad.So I decided there should be a rebuttal for these videos, especially from a woman, since that is who they are really geared towards.

The video that says women are portrayed as pretty, with perfect hair, make-up and figure as well as being cleaners and cooks, and men portrayed as "alpha male" with muscles, machismo and charm really deserves something.
Of course the women are portrayed that way! Since cave man days we have been the ones to keep the home clean, raise the children and make sure the men didn't have to do everything. We took some of the burden off the men so that they could provide food, clothing and shelter. It takes a lot of time to cook and clean. the men work hard all day and should not have to come home to a semingly lazy woman who leaves the care of everything for him. I can tell you from my own life that it makes the men depressed, short tempered, and unwilling to come home in the first place. They want to fell that they are doing the manly thing by comeing home to clean children, clean home, clean wife and a hot meal. The waistlines and curves are because they signal to men that we are fertile. That we have been through puberty. They are very feminine characteristics. I like that I have a natural hour glass figure. How much of that figure each woman has is decided by how much estrogen is in the body during puberty. More curvey = more hormone, less curvey = less hormone. Why fault yourself for that.? IT's the way you were made, and the way you walk and dress is what will tell a guy you are female. Not a Disney movie. However, I will say that guys are divided on heels. But i suspect most of that is from them being around so long and haveing it be a sign of either looking for sex or being feminine. I've heard my own dad call them stupid shoes.

Now the video about masculinity portrayal. Since before time was recorded muscles have signified a healthy physique and greater ability to provide food, shelter and protection. That's why the prince rescues the princess. IT plays on the rescue aspect ingrained in all of us that Disney clearly understood. The heroes and princes are portrayed as muscled and macho, that "alpha male" thing because that is what primal female mind looks for. I can back that up with this. When dating , before I met my husband, (and i hadn't thought about this until recently and was quick to jump into my mind) I was looking for a man who could protect, provide, was healthy and had an honorable way of looking at things. Yes, honor. I wasn't looking for a rich husband to provide for our family. I was looking for someone who would provide ina hard working, no-nonsense kind of way.

These videos also try to tell us that we shouldn't listen to these gender roles and should teach our children that gender roles are bad. Well phooey! I like to clean! I like having a clean home! I like being able to be dressed nice or feminine for my husband, maybe even with some make-up, to let him know that I care what he sees when he is home. I don't like looking slovenly or unkempt or lazy(pajamas in public are bad!). I like being able to take some of the household burden from him and let him be the "alpha male" in the family and be able to relax after a hard days work!

And those physical atributes these videos say we shouldn't want in men?! He has them. including the heavy brow that was portrayed on the beast and Tarzan as masculine (liked it before the movie was even made). Guess what. That heavy brow is proven to be a very masculine trate, as well as a deep voice and the muscles.

So if you have a problem with masculinity, real masculinity or real feminity then you need to rethink they way humanity is hard wired, and remember that we have been fed a lot of garbage that says we shouldn't be masculine or feminine, or even want to be. Gender roles are not a problem, They are a solution. MEn and women would be happier if they were told they were worth just as much at home (for women) and at work ( the men) than the other way around. I am convinced that depression and anxiety are so rampant because we've been told gender roles should be reversed. Gender roles are ingrained in the way our minds work. Going against it just causes problems.

That being said. All you women out there who like to play the "Victim" while you trample your men and children under you are sad examples of women and I am sick and tired of you! move aside and let the real women step in if you can't stand the role you put yourself in! If you didn't like being the queen your house and sharing the burden of married and family life then why did you even bother? It's women  little girls like you who give women a bad name.

Election Day

Did you vote today? I did. In fact, i went after my childs last lesson of the day. Art sladd was entertaining. See the side bar for why.

So voting is important. You should vote. I won't tell you who to vote for, just that it is important to vote.

Personally I voted for as few women as possible. As a woman, I fell we have no place in politics as any thing we could do becomes a power struggle between men and women. I also feel women should be home taking care of the family instead of butting into processes where they don't belong.

Think i'm wrong? How many lobbying groups are run by women? Now haw many of those have stopped job growth or american trade in the last 40 years? How many groups that are run by women have repressed women more than men have in the last hundred years? I point out that, personnally, I felt repressed when women told me, growing up, that i had to do something other than what I am doing right now, to be successful in life.k

That's why I voted for as few women as possible. Women don't have to hold office or run a country to be strong, independent or feminine. I think we should leave so much of that to the men, and take back the home.

Just for Dad's Friend Jim

I was asked for this recipe when he came to visit. It's been too long to be polite about putting it on here. But here it is... by special request:

       Katie's Dublin Coddle

Sausage- whatever king of link like sausage your family prefers
Potatoes- enough for everyone (yukon gold or red taste better than idaho)
Fresh parsley- dreied will work too
Bacon- i like thick cut but use what you like (just not flavored)
Onion- use onion to taste, not everyone likes lots of onion

Okay. firstly- This is not a diet recipe. This is not heart healthy. this is a fill-you-up-and-please-the-men recipe.

With that said here it is. Changed in the original which i found in a budget friendly cook book(not so budget friendly).

step 1-  Fry the bacon until crispy in a large skillet. The skillet needs to be big enough to fit everything in.  When the bacon is crispy, or desired doneness, remove from pan and set aside to cool and chop later. Do not throw out grease. Reserve a little  for later and use the rest to cook with.

step 2- Slice the onions and potatoes to desired thickness. Onions go better with this in rings, however, you can chop if you prefer.
Cook onions in skillet until just getting limp, then add sausage . brown the sausage a little then remove with the onions.

Step 3-  Put potatoes in the skillet to cook, with a little water. Make sure they are covered. No more than a cup of water unless you need to add more after testing a slice. After about 15 minutes of the taters cooking add the sausage and onions to the pan. Cover and cook until the taters are done. if there is still liquid in the pan remove cover and let it cook away.

step 4- Chop the parsley. IF the bacon is not chopped, do that. sprinkle both over top of meat and potatoes and serve.

Like I said. It's not a diet dish. But it tastes sooo good! It's a big hit at our house when we make it. Enjoy!

Toddlers & Tiara's"

Okay. o fox news is reporting that one of the mom's of that show is very likely to lose custody of her kid for over sexualizing her with the costumes she wore on stage. That's bad enough as it is, What got me so riled up about it was what some of the mom's interviewed said about it.

“The case is bulls**t,” said Gonzalez of the ongoing custody battle. “You don’t get your kids taken away because of your hobby. Lindsay is a good mom, she’s a responsible mom. Maddy is a happy little girl and she’s well-taken care of. She’s spoiled and she gets a lot of attention, but that's not grounds for her to be taken away. Maddy was wearing a costume – it was an outfit. The public needs to understand that it’s not about us sexualizing our kids – because we’re not.”

“It makes me sick to my stomach that the court is actually considering taking (Jackson’s) daughter away from her over the Dolly Parton incident,” said pageant mom Wendi Ryan. “It was a 90-second clip of something that she would do on stage to pretend that she was someone else. It’s not like she’s going to Wal-Mart dressed like that. It’s just a funny routine, there’s nobody there who would take it in a sexual context.”

“We are not sexualizing our children,” emphasized Wendy Dickey, whose daughter was featured on an infamous episode of “Toddlers & Tiaras” where she was dressed as a Hollywood Boulevard prostitute from the 1990 film “Pretty Woman.” “What we are doing is no different than what other parents are doing. My daughter Paisley competes in pageants, she does gymnastics, she takes dance, she plays T-ball and she’s four-years-old. Her costume–even the ‘Pretty Woman’ costume–is less revealing than her gymnastics costume.”

Clearly they don't see their children as children.Your kids aren't barbie dolls! If you want to play dress up with your daughter you have a box of hats, boas and costume jewelry. You don't put them in skimpy costumes or costumes with boobs put into them. Ms.Wendi Ryan would do well to remember that 90-seconds is all the time it takes for something bad to get started in someones head, and since she can't read minds there is no way she can posistively claim that there is no one at these pageants who take it in a sexual context.
As for the woman who said it was a hobby: Children are not a hobby. Collecting dolls is a hobby. Sewing is a hobby. Hundreds of other things other than treating you daughter like a living barbie doll are hobbies. Playing with your little girls life with the pageants is not a hobby.

So i was looking for an entertainment web site. I found this one instead.

http://www.usweekly.com/headlines.htm

Now, the first article I read was the one at the top about gun rights. Personally I think I stumbled on a patriotic site. But looking a little further into it it might a bit on the severe side on some things. IT's my understanding that some of the peole to read about can get extreme in their views. But hey!Everyone's is entitled to have their own opinion. Especially when they can back it up with some straight forward facts.

Taking a Break

So i take a breakk from a massive cleaning job to read some news.
It turned out to not be much of a break. These are why. Here are some links to what I read:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/08/13/criminal-immigrants-free-to-kill-as-home-countries-refuse-them/

Of course there's also the usual mudslinging and slander that goes with the upcoming election. I did happen to find and interesting video about a sign, however.

http://video.foxnews.com/v/1778945753001/businessman-attacked-for-anti-obama-sign

And then, after the not so great news I found something happier to look at.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQQarOS7PKE&feature=related

The number three car on that last one really got me. I can't believe they just drove away. I did notice that the videos are from different countries. So keep that in mind when you what the cars.

Next time I will have a really good post on why I think women shouldn't vote. Oh yes! i will now remind you all that I am a woman.

Hmmmm....

I usually stay away from politics. I'm sure many of you would understand why. One of them being the safety of my family, as politics is such a dangerous subject.
This one is different. It got me thinking two things. One: my great great grandchildren will be paying for this. Two: Wow! This is scary!

No comments for me to make other than those. It's just something I came across and had to think about.

Beating the Heat

Air Conditioning-

Not everyone has air conditioning, or it just can't keep up with the days that are over 100 degrees. Fans are great for this. Oscillating(it moves from side to side), box fans, giant fans that look industrail strenght(man do I want one of those!). As long as you have air movement you can get cool.

Extra moisture- get a cheep spray bottle fill it with water. Spray yourself down. The air movement caused by any fan combined with the water on your skin will help cool you down.

Foods-

Try to stay away from heavy foods. Red meat especially takes a lot of water to digest.
Cold sandwiches  and salads are better and lighter on the stomach. Used can tuna and canned chicken to make sandwich filling. Go light on the mayo or miracle whip since they are heavy.
Lots of fresh fruit, canned fruit or fresh veggies that are cut and kept in the fridge are good to snack on.
*Try  not to cook in the house. It heats it up and adds more strain on the A/C. The easy prep cold foods are great for this.

Fluids-

I cannot stress this enough. Hydrate! Make some decaf suntea, or herbal teas.Gatorade or Powerade(cut with water for the kids), ice water, lemonade, kool-aid(any brand) as long as you keep hydrated.
Pop-sicles, freezer pops, italian ice pops can all halp keep you hydrated and cool at the same time.

In Case of Emergancy-

Keep some ice packs and frozen cans of juice in the freezer. If someone passes out or is getting way too hot,  lay them down, put the juice cans in their arm pits and at back of neck, put ice packs on stomach, forehead and abdomen. (anyone can add anything else to that on the comments option)

Try to have fun. But stay cool and hydrated. Even swimming needs extra fluids.

The OSCARS

The ones I wanted to win, didn't. With the exception of Rango. I watched it with my daughter. It was fun! I wanted it to win mostly because on the prairie dogs riding bats while playing The Flight of the Valkyrie on bangos!(it's really in there)
But I noticed a trend or pattern on the clothing the women wore. Nearly all had 1930's style gown. Of course there were a few exceptions. Most of them were gorgeous. Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone, Octavia Spencer and some who's names I don't know were just stunning. Beautiful gowns everywhere, and the men looking handsome and polished in heir tuxedos.

The only thing that wasn't gorgeous was the body filling two of them(the dresses). Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie. M.Paltrow looked skinny and bony, even wrapped in that white gown. We should not be able to see hip bones. I understand there are some who naturally stay that skinny, just not usually at her age.
M. Jolie looked like skelletor!! I mean come on!!! since when is it sexy to have arms and legs the size of the bone that's holding the girl upright? The news and morning talk shows were saying she was gorgeous, but she was revolting! her hair was dull(really look at it) and teased to make look like she had more than she does. her knees and elbows looked like a strong wind could knock her over! Her face even looked gaunt under all that make-up! I do mean gaunt! My husband was just as gaunt when came home from prison.( No they do not feed them well enough to survive in our state. )
I made sure my little girl new I thought she looked bad. I don't want her to think that being just skin and bones is attractive, because it's not. They need to eat something.
